Additional comments:
I'm a Maine & Fisheries Scientist working for Ascension Island Government Conservation Department. We were out on the boat (01/07/2015) deploying PSAT tags on yellowfin tuna when we spotted the whale shark. The whale shark had a very noticeable notch on the tip of its caudal fin, would be very easily identifiable if seen again.
Lovely encounter, stayed around the boat for over an hour with three people observing it in the water.
